Exploring a Bizarre Steam Demo: Guiding a Turdy Character on a Quest to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have encountered plenty of entertaining creations from small studios. However, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure includes a protagonist that is actually a piece of poop trying to travel to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is easy to grasp: just use a one button to leap. In numerous stages, battle boss fights and unlock a shop to acquire customizations for your poop character.
Execute your actions precisely, since one wrong move means restarting the level. Bounce off floating orbs to launch your character to new heights, navigate fragile surfaces, and touch switches to unlock secret routes. Earn UN-KOINS for buying tougher game content as the action gets crazy.
In terms of design, the experience boasts neon stages and catchy soundtrack. The simple visual style with shifting basic polygons evokes memories of gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.
Although tough to name previous releases where you play as a dung character, gaming frequently featured toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create grenades from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as plant food. Unsurprisingly, fecal references appears extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its silly premise, Unko Technica has already received significant awards, including being named best at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is available now on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to debut on Steam this November.
