'Living a Nightmare': Relatives of Missing Teenagers Desperately Seek Answers After Ski Resort Inferno
The families of teenagers missing after a deadly inferno at a bar in a Switzerland's ski resort are confronting an agonising wait for official news and pleading for information about their family members publicly.
The inferno ripped through the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of January 1st. Circulated images show the roof structure igniting as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.
Officials have stated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the those who perished of the tragedy, which killed 40 people and hurt another scores more. Officials said on the latest update that 113 of the those hurt have been accounted for, with the process continuing to name the remaining few.
In the meantime, families and friends have been taking to the internet to plead for clues about their missing relatives who were in attendance that night.
Appeals for the Missing
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are not yet determined, according to an appeal from his mother.
The who lives of a town near the city, informed a publication that she had gone back to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the equivalent search in the capital, but could not find him.
"I'm living a nightmare, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. It's terrible," she stated.
She added that some of his companions had been found with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they experienced hell."
The Italy's foreign ministry has confirmed that a number of of its citizens remain missing.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage junior golfer, who hailed from Italy but now residing in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is dead, without directly referencing the tragedy, paying tribute to a "young athlete who embodied dedication and authentic values."
His parent, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An representative has clarified that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Further Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also among the missing. His mother said that he had been on holiday but had gone out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"Someone with him informed me they fled after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his educators said, "I've always been struck by his kindness and positive demeanor, alongside great responsibility. Often offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek nationality but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also present on that night, according to sources.
Her sibling has posted an appeal on social media, saying the relatives has had "no news" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.
Officials from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the situation.
