The England manager Questions Home Crowd Support Following Dominant Wales Victory.
Thomas Tuchel voiced his sadness that the Three Lions team did not get stronger backing from the Wembley fans during their commanding friendly win against Wales on Thursday night.
The manager was pleased to see his squad maintain their winning momentum, with goals from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Saka inside the initial stages deciding the contest. However, he was displeased with the atmosphere at the national stadium.
“We had one and a half training days to prepare against a drilled team and we excelled,” Tuchel remarked. “It could have been 5-0 up at the break. We missed the fourth and fifth goals. There was little noise. There was no any energy back from the stands. Our team gave their all to win.”
“What more can you provide in 20 minutes? We prevented them get away. If you hear just Wales fans for half an hour, it’s sad because the team warranted better encouragement today.”
“I support my words. There’s nothing more than leading three goals up in a rivalry match. I would have wished for a greater support in moments where it becomes tough.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It could have helped us to recharge, but that’s football and that is it.”
Selection Choices Justified by Display
Away from potentially starting a dispute among supporters, Tuchel also raised eyebrows by omitting Jude Bellingham and Foden from his team selection. However the choice was backed up by Rogers impressing again in the No 10 position and netting his first international goal.
“He plays his game,” Tuchel said. “He is a No 10 and he is competing for his position.”
Bellamy Hopes for Lessons from Loss
The Wales manager hopes that his team, who host a strong Belgian side in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Monday, improve after their awful first-half display.
“That’s the reason I wanted this match,” Bellamy commented. “I wanted to assess where we are. Where do we want to go? Who do we want to be? This performance gives me inspiration.”
Injury Concern for Striker
Ollie Watkins was withdrawn at the break after clattering into a post and is a concern when England face Latvia in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on next week.
